King Animal

King Animal, released November 13 2012 continued Soundgarden’s courageous musical exploration while maintaining the band’s special identity. The album’s character is rooted deeply within the wild landscape of the Pacific North West – an atmosphere which still resonated strongly for the band. In their review, the BBC dubbed it “dark Americana” while Rolling Stone called the album “a weirdly cool beast…as ageless as it is anachronistic” and Allmusic said it was “executed with precision…a surprisingly strong reunion.” Two singles were released, with the tongue-in-cheek video for By Crooked Steps directed by Dave Grohl.

King Animal debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the third highest position of Soundgarden’s career behind Superunknown (1994) and Down on the Upside (1996), which landed at position Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
