Today’s #albumoftheday is Soundgarden’s King Animal. This was the American grunge/alternative metal group’s sixth studio album, released in 2012. This was Soundgarden’s first studio album in sixteen years, after a breakup in 1997 due to high tensions within the band. King Animal features a heavy psychedelic rock sound on top of their grunge roots and tinges of heavy metal. It actually took me a while to really get into this record for some reason. Part of it was the radios drilling the lead single into my head too much, and the other part with the album sounding a bit different after all of these years. The band sounds older, but in a maturity type of way, not at all in a lack of energy. While King Animal is not as heavy, it still contains many of those key heavy elements. After giving it some time and space, I really like this record again. It feels fresh and new, which is a great thing. Sometimes you never know how well a comeback will go for a band who’s genre doesn’t really exist in modern music anymore. While King Animal is a great record, fans and die hard fans of Soundgarden will love this album the most, as it is made for them to see what an aged Soundgarden would sound like writing songs and in the studio. The psychedelic rock vibes really add a different texture to their sound – one I would love to see more of in the future. Definitely give this record a listen if you love rock and are into this band, because it’s made just for you. My favorite songs off of this album are A Thousand Days Before, Taree, and Been Away Too Long. #soundgarden #kinganimal #grunge #alternativemetal #postgrunge #psychedelicrock #heavymetal #alternativerock #alternative #psychedelic #metal #rock #hardrock #music #guitar #band #bands #album #albums #record #records #vinyl #art #artwork #musicreview #albumreview #review
